Haley Pike Solar Agreement Adds Benefits for Lexington Residents |
Council-approved commitments include energy-cost assistance programming, education and workforce support |

Lexington’s Haley Pike Landfill solar project now includes an agreement connecting the development to community programming.
The Urban County Council approved the Community Benefits Agreement October 22, adding commitments from developer Social Impact Solar.
The company will provide direct funding to the city for programs aimed at easing high energy costs for low-income households.
Additional resources and funding will support environmental education and workforce-development workshops.
The project is planned for a closed landfill, using a brownfield site rather than farmland.
That location gives the proposal a different land-use context from solar developments proposed on agricultural property.
The agreement also requires reporting of occupational license fees associated with the project, helping the council track related revenue.
Approval of the agreement does not mean the solar facility is operating, and residents should not interpret it as an announcement that household applications are open.
Program eligibility, delivery arrangements and opportunities to participate will require further details as implementation proceeds.
For now, the action establishes community-benefit commitments alongside the development contract. |
