Picnic With the Pops is extending its role in Lexington’s arts scene through a new Community Music Fund aimed at supporting music projects in Fayette County.

The fund is designed for organizations proposing specific performances or music-related initiatives rather than ordinary day-to-day operating expenses.

Potential applicants are encouraged to seek awards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 annually.

Projects must meet the fund’s stated eligibility criteria, with applications already open.

The organization expects to review submissions in November and notify selected recipients in early December for projects planned in 2027.

The initiative builds on the long history of Picnic With the Pops, a summer music tradition that began in 1980.

After supporting the creation of an amphitheater at Gatton Park, the organization is now looking to encourage additional musical activity across the community.

For Fayette County performers and arts groups, the timing matters because decisions are expected well before the new year.

Interested organizations should review the application requirements and confirm any submission deadline before preparing a proposal.

The fund does not cover capital projects, ongoing expenses or general operating costs, according to its announced guidelines.

The opportunity could help put more local music projects in front of audiences in 2027.
